BASIC WORK :
The basic work means preparation of foundation of research .For the purpose of research in yoga the BASIC WORK has been visualized in the following headings:
ACCESSORY WORK : This work provides necessary information related to yoga research already done as well as wherabouts of source materials and thus indicating the scope and possible area of Research in Yoga. A. CATALOGUE OF YOGIC MANUSCRIPTS (MSS) : This work is already published in the Year 1989 containing information about 2300 Yoga MSS, pertaining to 688 Yoga titles which are available in the various Libraries of India and abroad. B. COLLECTION / SELECTION OF YOGA MSS : The Department is also engaged in collecting as many MSS. on yoga as possible for research purposes. So far, we have collected about twelve hundred important MSS on Yoga and Allied Subjects. The collected MSS. are scrutinized with a view to select particular yoga Text for further Research. Our publication such as Hathapradipika , Goraksa Shatakam are the result of our critical selection. C. BIBLIOGRAPHY : This work has a unique role in Research. The Department has the credit of compiling a comprehensive Bibliography of Philosophical and Scientific Research papers on yoga Published in Yoga Mimamsa, A Research Quarterly Journal , published by Kaivalyadhama, upto 1998 TEXTUAL WORK : Textual Work of the P.L.R.D. can be Classified in the following heads : A. EDITING OF UNPUBLISHED YOGA TEXTS: In order to widen the knowledge of Yoga, it is necessary to publish such Yoga Texts which have not yet been published and are still in the form of MSS.. In this connection the P.L.R.D. has the credit of editing the Text named Brhadyogiyajnavalkyasmrti. This Text was brought to light for the first time by this Department. The work on Satkarma Sangrah and Goraksha Shatakam is also of the same category. B. CRITICAL EDITIONS OF YOGA TEXTS: Generally the published yoga texts are based on a single manuscript. Hence it is necessary to edit Yoga texts critically with the help of maximum available MSS. in order to provide authentic version of the texts. Our works of this nature are : (1) Hathapradipika (2) Gheranda Samhita (3) Siva Samhita. C. RECONSTRUCTION OF EXTINCT YOGA TEXTS (proposed) : There are many Yoga Texts such as Devala Smriti , Harita Smriti etc. which are extinct today. However , we come across many references quoted in different scriptures on the name of such Texts. The Department is engaged in collecting such quotations from different Scriptures and after editing them properly , the revival of such extinct Yoga Texts can be made possible . In this connection we have collected references available on the names of Devala Smriti and Harita Smriti which are extinct now. We are trying to classify and arrange the collected material in order to give them the shape of complete Book. D. PREPARATION OF TEXT / POPULAR BOOKS ON YOGA: The P.L.R.D. prepares Texts Books on yoga in order to supply the authentic material based on Researches being carried out in our Institute, to be used in various areas e.g. mental health, therapy, research, education etc. by wide variety of aspirants, according to their needs and their pursuits. So far, it has published following Titles: (1) Asanas (2) Pranayama (3) Yogic Therapy (4) Yogic Sangha Vyayama (5) Sachitra Shaleya Yogabhyasakram (6) Astangayoga, (7) Asana Why and How? (8) English Commentary on Patanjala Yoga Sutra. |
