DIPLOMA IN YOGA EDUCATION
FROM OCTOBER 2005 TO JUNE 2006
(PROSPECTUS FOR THE COURSE)

YOGA, THE SCIENCE OF HEALTH AND HEALING:
The literal meaning of the word Yoga is integration. It represents a process through which one learns how to live life in the most integrated way. It is a way, through which one ultimately reaches a stage of spiritual fulfillment.
This becomes possible through a process of constant effort for identification and elimination of all the elements, which would lead to disintegration. The Health of the body and mind, being the most important component of this integrated state, identification of all the elements causing ill-health and techniques for neutralizing their ill-effect becomes an important concern in Yoga.
Thus Yoga, viewed at one level as a science of personal growth for spiritual experience can also be viewed at another level as science of Health and Healing.
Unfortunately over the last few centuries of its more than five thousand years of existence, the essentials of Yoga got lost or got distorted by the indifference, ignorance and also by the wild superstitions prevale'1t in the society. The credit goes to many visionary persons like SWAMI VIVEKANANDA, SHRI AUROBINDO AND SWAMI KUVALAYANANDA to retrieve it and present it to the world with new vigour and perspective.

SWAMI KUVALAYANANDA:
Swami Kuvalayananda (B1883-D1966) was a pioneer in the field of scientific Yoga. He was the first person to start laboratory investigations for studying the effects of Yogic practices on human body and mind in a strict scientific manner. To carry out RESEARCH IN THIS FIELD, HE ESTABLISHED KAIVAL YADHAMA YOGA INSTITUTE AT LONAVLA, NEAR PUNE IN 1924.

HISTORICAL BACK GROUND OF KAIVALYADHAMA MUMBAI :
In 1932, activities of Kaivalyadhama Lonavla were extended to the city of Mumbai. In the initial period, the work was carried out at two centres. The health aspect was handled by the centre at Santacruz, known as 'AROGYA SHARANAM'; while the main centre at Borivali functioned as the spiritual centre, known as 'ADHYATMA KENDRA'.
Later on, for greater convenience of the people, the health centre was shifted to its present site on Marine Drive. The munificent donation received from Sir Chunilal Mehta, in the memory of Sir Mehta's son made it possible. It was renamed as ISHWARDAS CHUNILAL YOGIC HEALTH CENTRE KAIVALYADHAMA and was inaugurated on 30th April 1936 at the hands of MAHARANA OF PORBANDAR.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PRESENT ACTIVITIES:
Today, Kaivalyadhama Mumbai, has become one of the leading Yoga centres of the world, working in this field.
